Some things we have been up to over the last week and a bit....
* Cleaning up and organizing all the amazing work we have done all year * We read a book and have had some serious talks about our bodies. We learned about safe and unsafe touches, safe and unsafe secrets, proper names for private parts of our bodies, and who is allowed to touch them. * Learned how to play Capture The Flag in the Forest (this was a hit) * Finished our Octopus. * Spend some time learning about First NAtions and what the word aboriginal and reconciliation means ( had a wonderful Aboriginal Day assembly) * Thanks for all the support for the Nexan Beach field trip.

The website has been acting up recently along with a busy June. Sorry for the lack of posts.
Some things we have been working on in class.... * exploring Canadian coins, names and value - please support this at home by allowing your child to buy small purchases independently and talking about the math involved * Measurement - estimating size and actual measurement using centimeters and meter sticks * Life size drawing with Buddies - come look at them in hallway * Butterfly life cycle - we have 1 butterfly that has already emerged * Octopus - working on a collaborative paper mache Octopus model * Lots of sight word practice * The class has also risen to the challenge the last couple weeks by welcoming pre-schools and our future K's to the classroom during exploration. Very proud of everyone for welcoming everyone and making them feel comfortable. Tuesday no helper

* Piper and Keira helpers * sight word practise with Kaboom and memory games * soccer * class photo * construction ceter opened - very popular (thanks for wood donations) * watched the Lorax movie over 3 lunches- comparing it to book * graphing- made own bar graphs and polled classmates * octopus toilet paper roll craft Monday *Jackson was helper - he filled in all the missing word endings on our morning message * Added what the Truffala tree represents to us on our tree art * New Building Center opening tomorrow * Math Thinking groups - place Value * Planted bean seeds - ask who is in charge of watering it and keeping it alive * Studio - drumming * Started learning about Octopus - ask how many hearts they have and how small they can make themselves? Spring has sprung in the class. Everyone working hard to stay calm with all the extra Spring energy. Please make sure to bring in the paper bag building by tomorrow so that we can prepare our section for Wednesday afternoon. Parents welcome to come view at 2:00 in the gym.
Bike Rodeo tomorrow. Our class is first thing at 9:15. There will be helpers in the morning directing where to park bikes. Don't forget your helmet. Hug a Tree info went home. Please chat with your child about the importance of being safe when enjoying the outdoors. The whistle is a tool not a toy and is only used in emergencies. Yesterday Alex was our Special Helper! We... •Explored 4 different reading centers. (Reading on the IPads, Reading from our book bins, the game Kaboom, and teacher guided reading). Ask your child which one was their favourite station. •visited the gym where we played Noodle hockey. See pictures! •In Math we continued to explore our doubles by completing our doubles booklets and playing a similar game to snakes and ladders but to learn our doubles facts. •Visitied the garden where we planted green, yellow, and purple beans! Today Olivia was our Special Helper! We... •Started our day off playing a Math doubles game •Wrote in our journals “On the weekend..” ask your child what he/she wrote about. •Visited the studio •Jolly Phonics “ar” blend. * Math Thinking groups working on doubles and what equals mean * RCMP visit - ask what the letters stand for? ask what equipment they carry? * Search and Rescue - Hug a Tree Program - please chat with your child about what to do to be safe when spending time outdoors (always tell adult where you are going, bring backpack with water, food, whistle, and emergency blanket) If you get lost- Don't run, stay in one place (hug a tree), stay warm and dry, answer yelling and make noise (with whistle). * community project homework went home * Hello Familes,
It’s been a busy couple days in K/1! On Thursday we... •Learned about the parts of a plant and labelled our plant creations made from blocks. We then completed a booklet to learn the importance of each part of the plant (roots, stem, leaves and flower). •visited the forest •watched the talent show rehearsal On Friday we... •Created Kandinsky Concentric circles where the kids had to pick one dominant colour to represent their circles. (Squishy fruit packs) * Started Truffala Tree Artwork * Watched the Dancers of Damelahamid performance Wednesday -ask what their favourite animal was in the performance * Watch the talent show dress rehearsal * Math groups * Literacy groups * Finished reading all Chocolate Lilly books and the Gift was the most popular * Mrs Bensen and Mrs Wyatt taught during the week and everyone welcomed them and made them feel part of our class. Please make sure to bring water bottles, sun hats, and sunscreen to school. It is hot in the class and outside. |
